My Husband Says Iโ€™m Married to Someone Elseโ€ฆ๐Ÿ’”

Updated: Mar 21

๋ฉฐ์น  ์ „์ด์—ˆ์–ด์š”. ๋‚จํŽธ์—๊ฒŒ์„œ ๋ฉ”์‹œ์ง€๊ฐ€ ์™”์–ด์š”.

It was a few days ago. I got a message from my husband.

My Korean responses: ๋‚˜ ์ผ์š”์ผ์— ์นœ๊ตฌ๋“ค ๋งŒ๋‚จ (I'm meeting friends on Sunday), ์‘ ์ „ํ˜€ ๋ชจ๋ฆ„ ใ…‹ใ…‹ใ…‹ใ…‹ (Yeah, no idea at all. LOL)

๋งˆ์ง€๋ง‰ ๋ฉ”์‹œ์ง€๋ฅผ ๋ณด๊ณ  ๋‹ฌ๋ ฅ์„ ๋ดค์–ด์š”.

After reading his last message, I checked the calendar.

๊ทธ๋ฆฌ๊ณ  ๋‚จํŽธ์˜ ๋†๋‹ด์„ ๊ทธ์ œ์•ผ ์ดํ•ดํ–ˆ์–ด์š”.

And thatโ€™s when I finally understood my his joke.

I had no idea that Valentineโ€™s Day was this Friday.

<๋‚˜์˜ ์˜ˆ๋น„ ํ˜•์ˆ˜๋‹˜> ์ œ2๊ถŒ์„ ์ถœ๊ฐ„ํ•˜๋А๋ผ ์—„์ฒญ ๋ฐ”๋นด์–ด์š”.

I was incredibly busy publishing My Future Sister-In-Law Volume 2.

๊ทธ๋ž˜์„œ ์‹œ๊ฐ„ ๊ฐ๊ฐ์„ ์žƒ์—ˆ์–ด์š”. ์ถœ๊ฐ„์ผ์ธ 2์›” 19์ผ ์ˆ˜์š”์ผ๋งŒ ๊ธฐ์–ตํ•˜๊ณ  ์žˆ์—ˆ์–ด์š”.

So I lost my sense of time.ย The only date I remembered was Wednesdayย February 19, the release day.

FYI, as youโ€™ve probably noticed from our messages above, my husband and I mix English and Korean. Heโ€™s a native ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธย English speaker, and Iโ€™m a native ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ทย Korean speaker.

We both speak each otherโ€™s mother tongue fluently, but at home, we get lazy and default to our own languagesโ€”as you can see in our conversation. ๐Ÿ˜†

Iโ€™ll share how he became fluent in Korean laterโ€”once I get his permission, of course! (He values his anonymity a lot.) His story will definitely motivate you! ๐Ÿ’ช By the way, he was born and raised in the U.S. with zero ties to Korea.

Back to the Valentineโ€™s Day storyโ€ฆ

My husband says Iโ€™m married to my books. And if you look at the imagesย from myย Instagram post below, he might be right.

์ œ ๋‚จํŽธ์ด ์ œ ์ฑ…์„ ์‹ซ์–ดํ•œ๋‹ค๋Š” ๊ฒƒ์€ ์‚ฌ์‹ค์ด ์•„๋‹ˆ์˜ˆ์š”.

But itโ€™s not true that my husband dislikes my books.

์ œ ๋‚จํŽธ์€ ์ง€๋‚œ ์‹ญ์—ฌ ๋…„๊ฐ„ ์ œ๊ฐ€ ์˜์–ด๋กœ ๋งŒ๋“œ๋Š” ๋ชจ๋“  ์ œํ’ˆ๊ณผ ์ฑ…์„ ๊ฐ์ˆ˜ํ•ด ์คฌ์–ด์š”.

My husband has reviewed every product and book Iโ€™ve created in English for over ten years.

We always aim for the most natural English in our translations, but after lots of discussion (and some heated debates ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ˜†), we find versions that sound natural while still preserving the structure, tone,ย and nuance of the original Korean. This way, you can better understand the Korean as you read! One example is the second sentence below.

Anyway, since Iโ€™m married to both my husband and my books, I felt guilty and bought some chocolate ice cream for him.

Iโ€™ll give it to him when he gets home from work later.
